Job Summary:
The Aircraft Upholsterer is responsible for providing high-quality upholstery services for aircraft interiors. This role involves repairing, refurbishing, and installing various types of upholstery materials, including fabric, leather, and foam, to ensure the comfort, safety, and aesthetic appeal of the aircraft's interior.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform upholstery repairs and installations on various parts of the aircraft, including seats, headliners, sidewalls, carpets, and other interior components, according to industry standards and company guidelines.
2. Inspect, evaluate, and document the condition of upholstery materials, identifying any damages or defects that require repair or replacement.
3. Utilize appropriate tools, equipment, and techniques to cut, sew, glue, and stretch upholstery materials to fit specifications and ensure a secure and professional finish.
4. Remove and reinstall aircraft cabin fixtures, such as seats, armrests, and panels, as necessary for upholstery work.
5. Collaborate with other maintenance personnel and aircraft interior design teams to ensure a seamless integration of upholstery work with other cabin installations.
6. Maintain an inventory of upholstery supplies, materials, and equipment, and ensure their proper storage, organization, and usage.
7. Adhere to all safety guidelines, regulations, and industry standards to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with aviation authorities.
8. Follow maintenance schedules and prioritize workload to meet deadlines and minimize aircraft downtime.
9. Comply with all company policies and procedures, including those related to quality control, documentation, and reporting.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent education.
2. Minimum of 2 years of experience in aircraft upholstery or a related field.
3. Proficient knowledge of upholstery techniques, materials, and tools used in the aviation industry.
4. Strong attention to detail and ability to work with precision and accuracy.
5. Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to perform intricate upholstery tasks.
6. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and specifications related to upholstery work.
7. Good problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and repair upholstery-related issues.
8. Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and understand customer requirements.
9. Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations associated with aircraft maintenance.
10. Ability to work independently or as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
11. Physical stamina and ability to work in confined spaces and in various positions for extended periods.
12. Valid certification or license in upholstery or a related field is preferred.
